WHAT IS IPL?
At AJC Medical, patients who feel embarrassed by the appearance of sun damage or pigmentation on their complexion may benefit from innovative intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments. An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment that addresses pigmentation problems on the face and neck. During a treatment session, our physician uses intense pulses of light to encourage the natural healing process and increase collagen production. Over time, you should notice a healthier complexion, a more even tone, and fewer spots. Even though a photofacial is a nonsurgical procedure, it can produce effective and excellent results for your complexion. Our Raleigh, NC team uses the Harmony XL PRO from Alma Lasers to perform IPL therapy. At AJC Medical, we can complete a skin consultation to determine if this option works best for your skin.
Your complexion issues are unique so your cost for IPL treatments will depend on your individual goals. To make it easier for your budget, AJC Medical offers specials on treatments, like IPL therapy, and we accept various payment options. Your technician can help estimate your treatment cost at your initial consultation and determine how many sessions you need to address your cosmetic goals.
You can experience visible skin improvements after one Harmony XL PRO IPL treatment, but optimal results become more noticeable after completing a series of treatments. It’s common for your skin to respond differently to every session. Over time, you should see a gradual improvement in blotchiness, redness, age spots, and sun spots.
Most men and women have mild side effects, like temporary redness, swelling, crusting, bruising, or blisters. However, these effects should naturally subside 2 – 3 days after your treatment. You will have some photosensitivity, and please keep in mind that exposure to damaging UV rays can impact the procedure results. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen to help prevent skin issues, including redness and sun spots.
To prepare for your IPL therapy, we ask our Raleigh, NC patients to skip sun exposure and self-tanners for at least 2 – 4 weeks before the procedure. About 5 – 7 days before your treatment, our team may ask you to stop using certain medications and topical creams, like Retin-A, ibuprofen, aspirin, or other blood thinners to decrease your risk of bruising. We highly recommend using sun protection (like a hat and sunscreen) between treatments.
Our team recommends a series of IPL photorejuvenation treatments to provide gradual improvements to your complexion. Each session will help to diminish spots and other surface irregularities. A series of treatments can also help you have longer-lasting aesthetic results.
